How to Glaze with Plaster Paints & Metallics

3rd Mar 2016

Special finishes are very simple and easy to completely transform your project!

The long dresser shown below is being transformed using Ivory Lace for the bottom and a top of Pink Dreams. I distressed the Ivory Lace using my natural sponge and applied a Pearl wash over the top to give it a shimmer. I finished her off with a light coat of Paste Wax and buffed using our Buffing Brush for her final debut!

The Duncan hutch below was painted in Bella using my Plaster Paint Signature Brush. I then added a Bronze glaze and as if that wasn't beautiful enough I then added a Pearl wash! I completed her off with Paste Wax and buffed with our Buffing Brush!

How to create a Glaze:

Things you will need:

Small Bowl or Container (saving your empty jars become very helpful)
2 inch chip bristle brush - (Great for multipurpose use fits easily inside any size jar or can)
Plaster Paint or Metallic
Liquid Wax Matte
Damp Paper Towels (bounty is best - less shedding and more durable)

Instructions:

Use one part Plaster Paint or Metallic to one part Liquid Wax Matte

Stir well until all product is combined

Have everything ready and within arms reach as you will need to work with your glaze quickly.

Note: On small projects you will apply your glaze in all areas. On larger projects you will want to work in smaller sections no bigger then a cabinet door at a time.

Step 1 ~ Paint your base coat of Plaster Paint or Metallic-Let dry.

Step 2 ~ Put a quick coat of Liquid Wax Matte or Jewels Magic Spray over your base coat - this will lock in your color before glazing - Let dry.

Step 3 ~ Apply your glaze in all areas you would like to enhance. (Please see note above)

Step 4 ~ Grab a damp paper towel, fold and begin to pull/wipe your glaze back off until you get your desired look.

Step 5 ~ Allow your glaze to fully dry and then seal with your favorite Plaster Paint sealant.

Note: If this is a high usage piece then we suggest a second coat of Sealant and allow to fully dry.
